The State Department told The Washington Post they sometimes ask people suspected of having fraudulent papers to provide additional proof of birth. Those flagged are applicants who have birth certificates filed by a “midwife or other birth attendant suspected of having engaged in fraudulent activities” or those with both a U.S. And foreign birth certificate. “Individuals who are unable to demonstrate that they were born in the United States are denied issuance of a passport,” the State Department told the paper. In its story, the Post cited several examples, including a 40-year-old named Juan who reportedly says he was born in the United States, was delivered by a midwife in southern Texas and served in the Army, the Border Patrol and the state prison system. “I served my country. I fought for my country,” the man said.
Linux is a popular and completely free operating system for desktop computers. It's an alternative to Mac or Windows, which can run right alongside them in a virtual machine. In this course, LinkedIn instructor Scott Simpson shows you how to install and make your way around the desktop edition of Ubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver), one of the most user-friendly Linux distributions. Learn how to install Ubuntu on a virtual machine or directly on your computer and start performing common tasks: working with files, listening to music, editing photos, backing up your data, and sharing files with other users.
For users that are interested in going a little further with Linux, Scott also introduces how to use the command line. Whether you're considering switching from Mac or Windows, or see your company migrating that way, this course will help you get up and running with Linux fast. Instructor. Scott Simpson has a master's in education and currently creates technology courses as an author at LinkedIn. Scott has been interested in computers since he was about seven years old, and for most of that time, he's been teaching friends, family, and strangers how to use them. This geeky hobby turned into a job with Apple during college, and after completing his master's degree in education at San Diego State University, he has helped to shape the Developer segment here at lynda.com as a content producer.
Scott enjoys building web apps and exploring new technologies. He can be found on Twitter at.

In order to get Ubuntu installed in an environment where we can learn about it, we need to get the installer. Linux installers come as disc images, large files that represent a CD or DVD, called an ISO file or ISO image.
We can download these files from a distros website. In the case of Ubuntu, that's ubuntu.com. I should note that if you're using an older computer, one with a 32-bit processor, you won't be able to install this version of Ubuntu on your system; you'll need to look for an older version. But if your computer is from about 2008 or later, you can probably use the 64-bit version. Check your system specs to be certain.
I'll visit ubuntu.com and click through to download the current version of the desktop flavor. I'll mouse over Downloads and then choose Desktop.
Then I'll click the Download button. And then I'll click OK. This file takes a while to download, so be sure to set aside some time to allow it to finish. Once we have the installer downloaded, we can use it in a few different ways. We can use a USB drive to create an installer, or we can use the disc image to install within a virtual machine. The next videos in this chapter cover a few different methods to install Ubuntu now that we have an installation image. They're all optional and they don't count toward course completion, so pick whichever applies to your situation and skip the rest, if you'd like.
